    Within the Archdiocese of Melbourne there are many rewarding employment opportunities.

    Currently Catholic education in the Archdiocese comprises more than 250 primary schools, approximately 70 secondary schools and 5 special schools, employing over 10,500 principals and teachers as well as approximately 3,500 non-teaching/ancillary staff, working full-time and part-time.

    In addition, Catholic Education Melbourne employs over 400 staff based in East Melbourne and metropolitan regional offices.

  • Registration as a teacher in Victoria

    All teachers in Victoria must hold current teacher registration through the Victorian Institute of Teaching (VIT). For more information, visit the VIT website: www.vit.vic.edu.au.

    Accreditation to teach in a Catholic school

    It is vital for the effectiveness of the Catholic school community that all members understand the distinctive purpose and mission of Catholic schools. Principals and teachers need therefore to be accredited to teach in a Catholic school. In pursuing accreditation to teach in a Catholic school, staff will develop a deeper understanding not only of the nature of the school as part of the Church’s mission but also of their roles as members of staff. It is expected that accreditation requirements will be met within five years of beginning teaching in a Catholic school in Victoria.

    Teachers of Religious Education are further required to have Accreditation to Teach Religious Education in a Catholic School. It is essential that religious educators have an appropriate and adequate knowledge of Catholic faith, tradition and practice in order to competently teach religious education using the mandated texts and to contribute to students’ growth in faith.

    As well as the Application Form and the Guidelines which are available below, an Application Kit for primary principal positions must be obtained before submitting an application. These are available by contacting the Regional Office relevant to the school of interest as follows:
