    Demographics and Planning

Catholic Education Melbourne offers demographic information and planning assistance in the following ways:

    • Demographics – Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) statistics and demographic reports based on school catchments are available to assist schools when conducting a review of their future needs.
    • Enrolment advice – enrolment policies and procedures have been developed to assist Catholic primary and secondary schools and their families understand the enrolment process. Advice on priority parishes and parish boundaries is available.
    • Land acquisition – a schedule of required school sites is prepared which are consistent with the strategic plans noted above. These are discussed with parishes and the Archdiocese of Melbourne.
    • New school planning – advice and support are provided for parishes looking to start new schools. This extends to advice about timing, the educational brief and design, new school support and community development.
    • Planning for Catholic Schools in the Archdiocese of Melbourne the 4th edition of this document, published in August 2010, provides school communities with a guide to school and sector planning within the Archdiocese.
    • Projections and Estimates – Year level projections and longer-term estimates of total enrolment to 2036 are available to schools, together with reports on primary and secondary school catchments. Assistance is provided in interpreting these estimates and projections
    • School changes – staff keep a record of schools that are changing their operations or structures. Information from schools regarding any changes are passed onto other appropriate staff groups within  the Catholic Education Melbourne.
    • Strategic planning – overviews of educational provision requirements are prepared for all growth corridors in the Archdiocese of Melbourne, including the Mornington Peninsula, Geelong and the Bellarine Peninsula.
    • Town planning advice – schools affected by town planning applications or objections can be assisted. This is done in conjunction with the Archdiocesan Property Office.
